It describes the behaviors that sustain people in challenging roles, or as their careers become more demanding, and it captures the qualities that help people deal effectively with change. The Emotional and Social Competency Inventory Based on decades of research, across hundreds of roles and organizations, the Emotional and Social Competency Inventory ESCI model describes 12 competencies that differentiate outstanding from average performers.
This mixed methods study based on a cross-sectional design examined the relationship between servant leadership SL and emotional intelligence EI in leaders in 2 US servant led organizations. Current research suggests an empirical link may exist between servant leadership and emotional intelligence Parolini, ; van Staden, ; Vidic, ; Waddell, Greenleaf described the servant leader as one who is servant first. This character-focused model centers on collaboration and serving followers. Emotional intelligence, which includes self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skill, distinguishes effective leaders Goleman, Correlation analyses were conducted on the overall SL and EI scores.
Within those domains are twelve EI competencies, starting with emotional self-awareness in the self-awareness domain. Emotional self-control, adaptability, achievement orientation, and a positive outlook fall under self-management. Empathy and organizational awareness make up social awareness. Relationship management includes influence, coaching and mentoring, conflict management, teamwork, and inspirational leadership. Leaders need to develop a balance of strengths across these competencies. Assessment tools, like a degree assessment that uses ratings from yourself and those who know you well, can help you determine where your EI needs improvement.
