Rapport re- PORE is a close and harmonious relationship in which the people or groups concerned are "in sync" with each other, understand each other's feelings or ideas, and communicate smoothly. The word stems from the French verb rapporter which means literally to carry something back; [1] [2] and, in the sense of how people relate to each other means that what one person sends out the other sends back.

Use Active Listening to Coach Others

In this study, active empathetic listening is purposed as being an antecedent to a salesperson's communication skill, ability to maintain quality relationships and build trust. The study proposes that communication skill, relationship quality and trust all moderate the relationship between AEL and sales performance. Survey research using salespersons was conducted; structural equation modeling was used to test the hypotheses of the model. The findings confirmed that AEL was positively related to salespersons' communication skills, relationship quality and trust. The proposed moderators of communication and trust received support when predicting sales performance. This was the first empirical study to examine the role of AEL in a relationship selling model.

Rapport is a characteristic of a relationship if there is a high degree of empathy, attention, and shared understanding and expectations. Rapport should be enhanced when the salesperson and the customer are comembers of the same group. Also, rapport should aid persuasion and help increase consumer satisfaction. Both observational and paper-and-pencil techniques can be used to measure rapport. Theoretical and empirical research in personal selling has often been directed toward discovering techniques which would induce the prospect to purchase a product. Often these techniques are designed to gain a sale without addressing the customer's wants and needs.

Verbal communication involves both speaking and listening. In a business organization, listening is key to effective working relationships among employees and between management and staff. To improve your listening skills, give the other person your full attention and maintain eye contact. When she is done speaking, rephrase her remarks and ask whether you understand her correctly.
