Once you get started with human behavior research you soon find yourself running into the question of whether your research project is qualitative or quantitative in nature. There are inherent differences between qualitative and quantitative research methods, although their objectives and applications overlap in many ways. Qualitative research is considered to be particularly suitable for exploratory research e.
Research and statistics are two important things that are not mutually exclusive as they go hand in hand in most cases. The role of statistics in research is to function as a tool in designing research, analysing data and drawing conclusions from there. On the other hand, the basis of statistics is data, making most research studies result in large volumes of data. This data is measured, collected and reported, and analysed making it information , whereupon it can be visualised using graphs, images or other analysis tools. In this article, we will be discussing data, a very important aspect of statistics and research.
Qualitative and Quantitative Research: Differences and Similarities
Research roughly divides into two categories: qualitative research and quantitative research. Qualitative research deals in more abstract descriptions while quantitative research deals in numbers and actual hard data. The way a hamburger smells, for example, is qualitative, while its weight in grams is quantitative. In spite of these key differences there are some major similarities between these two forms of research. One similarity between qualitative and quantitative research is that raw data is ultimately qualitative.
Qualitative vs Quantitative Research – What Is the difference?
Qualitative Research is guided by different methodologies, techniques and tools. When we study these differences, we want to reinforce the specificity, efficiency and effectiveness of the methodological design in relation to the research objectives and questions that we want to answer. These grounds remind us that the methodology has, despite its limitations, a definitive role in distinguishing the conclusions of science from mere speculation or daily superstition. When we discuss qualitative research versus quantitative research in education and in the other human and social sciences, we usually point out the differences of these two research approaches with the laudable aim of establishing limitations and applications of each one of them. Are we not forgetting to reflect on the similarities?
In other words, qualitative research is concerned with "why," whereas quantitative research is concerned with "what." Although the data produced by each is vastly different from the other, similarities do exist between the two research tools.

Research is an important part of operating a business. Whether the research is for marketing purposes or to determine future possible growth, research helps a business plan its course. Two types of research are the most popular forms a business uses.
Qualitative Methods. Quantitative Methods. Methods include focus groups, in-depth interviews, and reviews of documents for types of themes. Primarily inductive process used to formulate theory or hypotheses. Primarily deductive process used to test pre-specified concepts, constructs, and hypotheses that make up a theory.
