Common methods of stabilization that often involve extensive grading are slope alteration and complete removal of a hazard.
Slope alteration as a method of stabilization commonly involves variations of the cut and fill technique. Bromhead The new edition of this successful book has been thoroughly revised to take account of recent advances in our understanding of slope stability. In continuum methods, such as the finite element method and limit equilibrium methods, rock materials are usually considered as having a continuous nature.
Where commonly practiced, discontinuum methods, like the discrete fracture network method and the Root strength and root area ratio of forest species in The FLAC2D code was used to evaluate the current stability of these landslides and to determine the effectiveness of changing the slope geometry by removing material from the upper part of the slope and putting it to the lowest part as reinforcement.

Thus, this study is intended to focus on the rise of the groundwater level from the bottom of the slope which would lead to landslides due to pore pressure development by eliminating other landslide-triggering factors i.

Slope stability analysis is a static or dynamic, analytical or empirical method to evaluate the stability of earth and rock-fill dams, embankments, excavated slopes, and natural slopes in soil and rock. Slope stability refers to the condition of inclined soil or rock slopes to withstand or undergo movement. The stability condition of slopes is a subject of study and research in soil mechanics , geotechnical engineering and engineering geology. Analyses are generally aimed at understanding the causes of an occurred slope failure, or the factors that can potentially trigger a slope movement, resulting in a landslide , as well as at preventing the initiation of such movement, slowing it down or arresting it through mitigation countermeasures. The stability of a slope is essentially controlled by the ratio between the available shear strength and the acting shear stress , which can be expressed in terms of a safety factor if these quantities are integrated over a potential or actual sliding surface. A slope can be globally stable if the safety factor, computed along any potential sliding surface running from the top of the slope to its toe, is always larger than 1. The smallest value of the safety factor will be taken as representing the global stability condition of the slope.
Man-made factors take an important place in the formation of landslides besides the natural events. Road constructions, establishing new residential areas and interfering natural drainage systems are some of the common reasons that cause landslides. A slope on an intercity road construction site in the western Black Sea region, Turkey, is selected for this study due to the presence of small-scale soil movements, rock falls, tension cracks and occurrence of landslides in the neighborhood. The study area is investigated at three different profiles based on the topography. Slope stability analyses are carried out on these profiles by three-dimensional finite element analyses. As the results of analysis critic levels of the factor of safety and the high soil movements are estimated for one of the profiles.
