Prefixes are words that you add to beginning of root words. When prefixes are added they modify the meaning of the root words. Example: the root word "ject" means to throw. You will commonly come across the prefixes in- and re- being add to "ject". They create the words "inject" to put into and "reject" to throw out. In this case the prefix gave the root words direction. Suffixes are similar to Prefixes in that they modify the meaning of words, but they are added to the end of the root words.
